The Canary Islands appeared from different volcanic eruptions along several years. The sediment of the lava have become black sand with the continue movement of the waves.  The black sand has the peculiarity to heat up quickly with the solar radiation.

In the Canaries we have lot of black sand beaches among we want to highlight:

The Benijo beach (Tenerife). A beautiful beach with an aesthetic that wins the heart of everyone. Its rocks and the sunsets from there makes you love this place. The only bad thing is that it is a beach open to the north and the sea is frequently brave and you should take care.

The Playa del Inglés in La Gomera is famous to be desert normally. So this black sand beach is perfect to enjoy a peaceful day. The magic of the island is evident in this place where peace and relax are guarantee.

The Gaviotas beach in Tenerife is a natural place with a lush beauty, protected by the cliff of the mountain range of Anaga. Although this place is almost isolated, it is near to the capital of Tenerife.

The Ajuy beach is a must in your visit to Fuerteventura. Its black sand is very fine and this beach is near to the caves of the pirates. The landscape that surround it is amazing and makes that every year this place recibe more and more tourists.

Los Clicos beach is situated in Lanzarote, at the entrance of El Golfo village. There we find the green lake or Los Clicos Lagoon. It is the part of a volcano crater almost sunked, similar to an amphitheater open to the ocean that was formed by the eruptions in 1730. The water is seeps in from the sea and the lagoon has some meters of depth. The emerald colour, that intensely contrast with the black sand, comes from the phytoplankton that lives under its surface.

Los Nogales beach at the northwest of La Palma, in the municipality of Puntallana, is as wild place as its surroundings. The route to get there will be a great adventure. About 15 minutes separate the parking from the beach. This path goes along the cliff and the views are wonderful. Take into account that you will go up and down some steps and the same when you return. There is not another easier way to go there.

So, you only have to wear your swimsuit and enjoy our black sand beaches. You will love all of them due to its peaceful and it wild nature.

If you have visited some of them, please, tell us what is your favourite black sand beach of the Canaries. We will appreciate your comments and your recommendations.
