Timanfaya one day in Lanzarote

One day in Lanzarote

On our way to Timanfaya

We can go first to the rent a car office and then drive to the southwest of the island. On the way to San Bartolomé, we will see the Monumento al Campesino, an sculpture made by César Manrique, an artist born in Lanzarote. It is a public tribute to the effort of men and women working the fields. We carry on through the picturesque villages of Tao, Tiagua, La Vegueta and finally we will arrive to Mancha Blanca, a religious worship place that every September is the meeting point of thousands of pilgrims, who want to thank the Virgin Dolores her miracle stopping the volcanic lava. Then we keep going to the National Park through a road in the middle of lava streams.

Once we leave our car at the parking, we can take the bus to make a route in the National Park (it is included with your ticket), listening the stories of people who experienced the eruptions on the island. We can stop to see the geothermal demonstration on the “Islote del Hilario”, where the heat of the volcano takes place. During the visit to “El Diablo” restaurant, we can enjoy the volcanic landscape through its glass walls. The food here are cooked with a giant grill from the heart of the volcano at around 400º C.

El Golfo and the lava Coast

We continue our trip to El Golfo, a small fishing village in which we could have lunch and taste a delicious fresh fish caught in the area. Then, we will walk to the viewpoint where we will have a great panoramic view of the green Lake (Charco de los Clicos).

We return to the car and take direction to the lava coast with a brief stop in Los Hervideros. The sound of the waves from the Atlantic Ocean hitting the rocks will hypnotized us.

La Geria

Bordering the salt mines of Janubio, we get the road that will get us to La Geria. Once we pass the the village of Uga, we arrive to the protected landscape of La Geria, the main vineyards of the islands with designation of origin.  The hard work of the farmers, who looked for any alternatives under the ashes of the volcano, has left us an unique landscape in the world. We stop there to visit one of the wineries and taste one of the best Malvasia wine.

César Manrique Foundation

The day is ending, so we continue on our way to Tahiche, where we could find the first house of the artist César Manrique. A place where art and nature meet in one single space to show the love and devotion that the artist felt for the island. Enjoy it with all five senses and let yourself get carried away.

And it is time to come back to the ship…

No doubt, it will have been a great day in Lanzarote, with emotionally-filled moments that will remain in our memory.
