The Peñitas ravine is one of the most beautiful natural areas of Fuerteventura. In this short path you could discover different attractive things of the less known part of the island. This route is in a protected area in the Rural Park of Betancuria.

ROUTE: Las Peñitas ravine
START:  Buen Paso                                     DIFFICULTY: Easy
DISTANCE: 3´5 km                                      DURATION: 1 hour

This area has a great landscape value and in it we find one of the few dams of the island. Also this area has a path well signposted that connects Buen Paso with Vega de Río Palmas. On the route we will see the chapel of La Peña, patron saint of Fuerteventura.

It is a short route that could do easily in one hour and a half if we only do one way. It is well signposted and is easy to walk along it so it is a route recommended for everyone. The path could be done from the south to the north (as we tell you today) and vice versa.

We start the path from Buen Paso. In the first part of the route we find a palm area that looks like an oasis. From here, we take the path that go along the left part of the ravine. This path takes us direct to the hermitage that is situated approximately on the half of the route.  Around the hermitage there are some of the oldest geological material of the island. This is a great place to be a refugee for different bird of prey.

At the end of the ravine it is the dam of Las Peñitas built after the Spanish Civil War. In the past it was very useful but today is lacks of use because it is full of sediments that had been accumulated over the years. So today stores little water.

This part of the island is well know by the climb lovers because it it one of the best are to practice free solo climbing. Among other curiosities of  this place is the Arch of Las Peñitas. It is a rock formation that nature has sculpted and has given form. It is a beautiful are that is not far away from the las Peñitas ravine.
