Teguise in Lanzarote and Betancuria in Fuerteventura have recently become part of the list of the most beautiful towns of Spain.

The beauty and conservation of its heritage, the cleaning and armony of its historic area, the cultural activity, the pay attention to the traditions, or the care of the gardens and green spaces are only some of the judgements which have been passed by far these two localities to receive this pretigious honour.

– Betancuria:

Betancuria was the first city founded in the Canary Islands and the first capital of the region until 1834. It is located in the valley of Macizo de Betancuria, one of the fewest deserted areas of the island. It has an interesting historical heritage, of which it could highlight different religious buildings, such as the church of Santa María de Betancuria, or the hermitage of San Diego. The Archaeological Museum is also worth a visit, with many objects and pieces from the aboriginal period.

Finally, you cannot leave Betancuria without enjoying the panoramic views of Fuerteventura from its two viewpoints: Morro Velosa, designed by César Manrique, and Guise y Ayose, from which you can see a large part of the center and north of the island.

For its part, Teguise in Lanzarote, has many reasons as well to have won this important recognition. This town is one of the best preserved places in the Canary Islands and an example of this is its all historical centre. Walking through La Villa, as it is also known, is to stop time, and enjoy the beauty which offers us its cobbled streets, and the facades of the houses, with white walls and green carpentry. It is also a town full of history, since it was the former capital of the island, and it is considered the first civil and urban settlement of the archipelago.

If you come to Teguise, we recommend you discover some of its most emblematic buildings such as the Castle of Santa Bárbara, currently a museum of the history of piracy, or the Spínola Palace, an 18th-century stately home that houses a museum dedicated to the timple, a peculiar Canarian instrument. And of course, you can not miss the traditional market, which takes place here every Sunday, one of the most important in the Canary Islands.

In short, there are many reasons that both Teguise in Lanzarote and Betancuria in Fuerteventura have become a must if we are on vacation in one of these islands. From Canary Trip Booking, we invite you to discover these two unique and picturesque villages with us and visit each of the beautiful corners that both locations offer us.
