Lanzarote give you the opportunity to walk around and explore the island in a different way. Geology, nature and inusual landscapes that  leave you wanting more. So, following our serie of trekking in Lanzarote, today we bring you a new trekking route that will not leave you indifferent.

Trekking: El Golfo- El Paso Beach

START : at the end of the village there is a parking and there starts the path.

DISTANCE: 7,5 km (to el Paso beach and back)               DIFFICULTY: Slow

SLOPE: 184 metres                                                           TYPE: circular route

DURATION: 2 hours and a half media.

This is the unique trekking route that we could do in the Timanfaya National Park without the need to be with a certified guide.

The path starts in the village of El Golfo, where we could park our car and get ready to explore the route along the National Park coast. It is an eminently volcanic route. It is a beaten path and the intersections are well marked. It is recommended to use a walking shoes because the the main part of the route we walk on loose volcanic rocks and the ground is quite abrasive.

What can we see in this trekking route?

The path, as we have said, starts in the village, and from there we enter into the volcanic landscape. In our journey, we have the possibility to see different kinds of lava stream. For example: AA, pahoe hoe; cliffs, crags, etc. We will end the route in El Paso beach. It is a black sand beach that is usually deserted and where the seas roars hard. This force adds beauty to this place because the foam of the waves embed in the black and fine sand of the sea shore. Doubtlessly, a view of great beauty. Also, if you have the chance to do this route at sunset, you will enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets on the island.

This beach is not recommended to swim due to the heavy swell and and the strong current, but it always nice to get your feet wet and enjoy a walk along the shore.

This path has two detours; we can do the route to El Paso beach and go back for the interior route (7,5 km). In this case, instead of come back for the same path, we follow the sand path that starts in the beach to the interior and do a circular route that finish in the entrance of El Golfo. Or if we want to do a longer route, we could continue by the coast to La Madera beach, in the municipality of Tinajo. It is a route of 5 hours walking on volcanic rocks over the sea (17km).

This area of the island is a jewel for the enthusiastic of geology and nature because they can see the lava stream in situ, also the fact that it is a coast road makes it even more interesting. Our recomendation: Do it at sunset!!!
