After a first chapter, we want you still get different perspectives of the Canary Islands when you visit them. For this reason, we show you seven viewpoints more from where you will have amazing views of every island. Each one will surprise you and give you a different perspective of the island.
Sicasumbre Viewpoint. Fuerteventura
The great quality of the sky in Fuerteventura makes you enjoy seeing the stars. Today we recommend you the Siscasumbre Viewpoint, the first astronomical viewpoint of Fuerteventura. It is located at the entrance of the Jandía Natural Park and was built with natural material of this area, so it is a work integrated with the environment around it. If you go during the day, you will see just at the entrance, sculptures of goat, made by the sculptor of Fuerteventura Juan Miguel Cubas. From here you can see the Natural Monument of Cardón Mountain and the Jandía Natural Park, and also the Hendida Mountain and the Degollada del Viento. Without a doubt, a landscape of great beauty. If you decides to visit it at night, you will enjoy a starry sky and will distinguish the planets in the firmament, as this viewpoint has a mockup of the solar system on a scale. If you have a telescope or a photographic equipment, there are brackets to put them and enjoy the views.
Femés Viewpoint. Lanzarote
Known also as Balcón de Femés (Balcony of Femés), this viewpoint is located in the town with this name. On the top of a vantage point, the former inhabitants of Lanzarote took refuge to escape from the piratical attacks which came often to the island. From here they had a view of the whole coast and the place was difficult to access for the plunderers, as it is situated on a slope of almost 450 metres. Nowadays, people who come to the Femés Viewpoint, look to the horizon with curiosity and not with fear like our ancestors.
From this place we have a panoramic view of the south coast of the island, the strait which separates Lanzarote from Fuerteventura, known as La Bocaina. Just only 15 kilometres separate one island from the another one, so it is easy to sight on the horizon Fuerteventura and the islet of Lobos. The massif of Los Ajaches or the plains of Rubicón are also part of this landscape that, if you have the chance, we recommend you to visit at sunset.
The Beaches’s Viewpoint. El Hierro
In the north of El Hierro island and just twenty minutes from Valverde, we find The beaches Viewpoint. A spectacular landscape which is part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of the island. Opposite this viewpoint, in a shape of an amphitheatre, we make out the bay. It is a vertical landscape which allows to see the serrated coast of the island and observe the different geological periods of El Hierro. In the distance, we can see the Roque de Bonanza, but you need to boost your eyesight. The Arch of the Beaches will help you to locate it. In the distance we can see the Parador de Turismo de El Hierro, and even. some days it is possible to see Tenerife and La Gomera. If it is foggy when you arrive, wait a bit because we are sure it will be clearer later on to see the wonderful views this place offers.
Gran Mirador del Balcón or Andén Verde Viewpoint. Gran Canaria
Going through the road GC-200 between Agaete and La Aldea, we come across a spectacular viewpoint literally hanging from a cliff, which drops down vertically to the vast ocean. If you like the monumental landscapes we are sure you will love this place. It has information boards in the siding, and without a doubt, the best thing is to go down the stone stairs which takes us to the look-out post, a real balcony, that is why it is named as viewpoint. If you look to the heart of the island, you can see La Arena cliff and the valley of La Aldea de San Nicolás. Also from the viewpoint we can observe what is known as “the dragon’s tail“, a slope of a coastal cliff with summits in zig-zag that reminds us of the mythological monster. The smell of the sea and the landscape will captivate you.
El Palmarejo Viewpoint. La Gomera
The Palmarejo Viewpoint, in La Gomera island, was opened in 1995. It is also known as the César Manrique Viewpoint, as this artist from Lanzarote was the designer of this nice viewpoint. Inside there is a restaurant where you can try typical dishes of the canary archipelago. Eating here is a delight to the sight and the palate.
This viewpoint is located on the top of a valley, in a vantage point where you can see the village of Valle Gran Rey. If you want to enjoy one of the most spectacular and real landscape, you must visit it. A rural landscape appears in front of us, in which emphasize a string of “bancanales” creating stepped slopes, the country houses on the hillsides and the palm groves adorning the area.
Los Muchachos Viewpoint. La Palma
Located in the highest point of the island, a 2426 metres above sea level, the Roque de Los Muchachos Viewpoint is the most spectacular of La Palma island.
If we want to go there, we must take the LP-4 road. Once we arrive to the Astrophysical Observatory we will turn off in the LP-403 road, which will lead to the viewpoint. From this viewpoint we will have an amazing view of the Caldera de Taburiente National Park, with about 1500 metres depth. It is an impressive natural landscape, which, depending on the weather conditions, sometimes we have the opportunity to see Tenerife, La Gomera and El Hierro.
If you like the hiking and are equipped, you will can skirt the Caldera de Taburiente through the path GR-131. If you like the astronomy, don’t hesitate to come to this viewpoint at night. Why do you think this Astrophysical Observatory is located in this area? La Palma has one of the clearest skies in the Canary Islands. From here we will have spectacular views of the night sky.
La Degollada de Cherfe Viewpoint. Tenerife
In the middle of the Teno Rural Park we find this viewpoint. La Degollada de Cherfe is located in the siding of the TF-436 road. We can find it on the way from Santiago del Teide to Masca. It is situated about 1100 metres above sea level, and from here we have impressive views of the small village of Masca and its clif, located at the feet of Roque Tarucho. It is very easy to make out in the horizon the islands of La Gomera and La Palma.
Also, we see the most unknown part of El Teide, the highest mountain in Spain. From here we have nice views to its western side. Looking at El Teide, we will see just in front of us the Chinyero volcano and the valley of Santiago. These natural landscapes will make you sit for a few minutes to enjoy the nature.
