Explore the North of Lanzarote: Nature, Culture, and the Works of César Manrique

Discover the magic of northern Lanzarote by visiting two of the island’s most iconic spots: Jameos del Agua and Mirador del Río, both designed by the renowned artist César Manrique.

Itinerary

After picking up participants at the designated meeting points, we will head north. Along the way, we’ll pass through the charming town of Teguise, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the iconic Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe church and its cobblestone streets, preserving the essence of traditional Canarian style.

Continuing through the villages of Los Valles and Haría, you’ll have the chance to admire the famous Valley of a Thousand Palm Trees, a green oasis that contrasts with the volcanic landscape typical of the island. This is one of the most well-preserved and picturesque spots in Lanzarote.

Mirador del Río

Our next stop will be the stunning Mirador del Río, an architectural masterpiece by César Manrique. Located 474 meters above sea level on the Risco de Famara, this viewpoint offers spectacular views of the island of La Graciosa and the Chinijo Archipelago. The seamless integration of the structure with the natural surroundings is a hallmark of Manrique’s work.

Jameos del Agua

After enjoying the breathtaking views, we will head to Jameos del Agua, another one of César Manrique’s great creations. This volcanic cave system will amaze you with its unique beauty, where art and nature come together in perfect harmony. Jameos del Agua is also home to the jameito, a small blind albino crab that lives in the underground lake, symbolizing Lanzarote’s unique biodiversity.

As you explore this spectacular environment, you’ll also learn about the volcanic formation of the island and its endemic flora, all within a space designed by Manrique to respect and highlight the natural surroundings.

Aloe Vera and Canarian Culture

During the tour, we will stop at an Aloe Vera plantation, a plant native to the Canary Islands with multiple medicinal properties. During the visit, you’ll have the chance to taste the plant directly and use some of the cosmetic products made from Aloe, renowned for their benefits to the skin. At the Aloe Museum, you will discover the history of this plant and its applications over the centuries.

The tour ends by passing through the picturesque villages of Mala and Guatiza, known for their prickly pear plantations where cochineal is harvested, a valuable natural dye that has been used for centuries.

An Unforgettable Day in Lanzarote

Immerse yourself in the culture, nature, and art of Lanzarote with this excursion that will take you to the most beautiful and iconic places in the north of the island. Spectacular views, charming villages, and two of César Manrique’s greatest creations await you on this journey.

Muchas gracias.

It was an amazing north tour. We were picked up on time. I really loved the huge caves and the pool in the Jameos del Agua and, of course, the spectacular views from the Mirador del Río. Great day all in all!

Es war einfach fantastisch. Unser Reiseleiter hat alles in gutem Deutsch erklärt und eine Busfahrt die in Erinnerung bleibt. Sehr empfehlenswert!
