Weeks full of color and glitter begin, with parties in the streets and music in every corner, the Carnival in Lanzarote are here. “Murgas” or satirical song groups competitions, meeting of troupes, “batucadas”, carnival during the day and parades are coming in the next days in the island. Are you going to miss them?

In Arrecife from the 15th to 26th February, the comic world will invade the streets of the capital, and superheroes will take to the city accompanied by fantasy and fun. It will be easy to bump into Wonder Woman, Batman or Spiderman in the carnival nights.

In addition, this year and to continue the celebration of the centenary of the birth of César Manrique’, the troupe “Los Cumbacheros” has decided to pay tribute to the this artist born in Lanzarote and the island, dedicating him the fantasy of its costume in this 2020, called “100 years next to you”.

The designer Borja Abreu was inspired by the different works of Manrique. The figures used are in the mural exposed in the Tahiche Foundation, as well as in the most singular corners of Lanzarote. They are reflected in the costumes of the different components of the group. On the one hand, the “batucada” represents fire, earth and volcano through the colors red, black and orange.

The dance components represent the Jameos del Agua and the lake Charco de Los Clicos with bluish and greenish colors; and the big suits are identified with the wind toys designed by Manrique, in different pink, violet and green tones.

The troupe Los Cumbacheros was created in 2012 and has been transmitting rhythm and color to the carnivals of Lanzarote for 8 years. It has about 70 components of all ages with the common link of living and enjoying carnival.

Since its inception, they have had all kinds of designs, among which are: “Crystal Empire” year 2015, “Black Space” year 2016 and “Once Upon a Time” year 2019. Each year they have been overcome with respect to the fantasies that look in our carnivals, and this year was not going to be less … Manrique is a source of inspiration for everyone!

In addition, this year they have been invited to the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and will participate in the announcing parade and in the “Rhythm and Harmony” troupe contest of the Tenerife capital. A great opportunity to live new experiences and especially surround yourself with many other groups.

We hope you enjoy the contest and above all to live and enjoy the carnival.

We show you the program of the carnival in Arrecife, as you do not miss any of the events and enjoy the carnival.

Happy Carnival!
