The beaches of Fuerteventura are with no doubt the most famous of the Canary Islands. Some of them are even in the top ten of the best beaches of Europe. With this post you could check that, from the North to the South, the coast of the island offers places of singular beauty. From Corralejo to Jandía discover eight of the most popular and special places that the Fuerteventura coast gives us.

Corralejo beaches

Our route starts in Corralejo. The area offers beaches and coves for every taste. Some of them offers beach bars and tourist establishment on the seafront. But if we want to go away from the hustle and bustle and be more relaxed, get the road FV-1a to Puerto Rosario and access to the the Natural Park Dunes of Corralejo. This area of fine sand is in the northeast coast, where are situated long beaches of turquoise waters.

La Concha

In the north-west coast is situated El Cotillo, a village of fishering tradition where the calm reigns. The beach of La Concha deserves be visited, especially for surf lovers. It is full of puddles that looks like natural pools and are great for the enjoyment of the visitors.

Gran Tarajal

In the center of this village is the urban beach that has all the services needed to everyone. The peculiarity of this beach is the colour of its sand that is not the typical golden sand. Its colours is dark, almost black, and it looks like the beaches of the western Canary Islands.

Costa Calma

In the south is situated Costa Calma. There awaits us more that 2 km of white sand and full of palm trees. This landscape will make us feel in authentic oasis in the middle of the desert.

Sotavento

In the same area of Costa Calma the beach of Sotavento seems to be taken from a postcard. Turquoise waters, fine and golden sand and more than 9 km to walk along. Its main characteristic is its low tide that create a unique landscape of little lakes that are perfect to practice water activities like windsurf.

Esquinzo Butihondo

Situated in the urbanization of Esquinzo Butihondo, in the north of Morro Jable. Despite being in a tourist area, in its almost 3 km this beach offers different areas of peace. Those are perfect to practice nakedness, sunbathe or enjoy water sports. This beach is famous because of its well accessibility: it has parking and also there is public transport that take you there. Moreover, it has different facilities to have a nice day there: beach bars, toilets, showers, hammocks hire and much more.

Solana del Matorral (Morro Jable)

Also in Morro Jable there is the Solana de Matorral beach, one of the main touristic areas of Fuerteventura. With almost 4 and a half kilometres of coast of white fine sand, in this place is very popular the practices of water sports, among them, the scuba diving. The lighthouse of el Matorral is the division of the nudist area, situated to the north of the lighthouse and the no nudist area is near to Morro Jable. Here also is situated the Saladar de Jandía, a place of scientific interest due to its great diversity of seabirds that are possible to see there.

Cofete

And we end with one of the most wild beaches of the Canary Islands. In the road that take us to the lighthouse of Jandía we take the first path to the right that will take us to Cofete. Of golden sand and rough sea, the coast of Cofete offers more than 13 kilometres of length. It is protected by the mountain range of Jandía. If we walk along the beach to the north we will find the Islet and if we walk to the south we find the Roque del Moro.  Although this beach has parking area, the path to get there is not good enough, because it has sand and rocks, and some parts are difficult to drive. However, it could be the reason that make this beach special and keep it as the most famous unspoilt beach of the Canary Islands.

As you can see Fuerteventura has beaches for all tastes and for all types of travelers, you just have to find the one that best suits you and… enjoy!
